December 24th, 14:00.

Traffic was nice and light today and there was no construction.  This in an of itself is reason to celebrate.  If that is not enough for you, here are some festive pictures of an install and delivery today.

An inside mount Roman Shade with decorative inset
banding.
Add an arched cornice board.
The installer felt it looked better up.  What do you think?
And there is a matching  one for the door.

Reversible chair pad done in Pink/Green.  Fabric is from the Paris Ritz collection by Fabricut.

And another chair pad along with an upholstered back.
Please Note:  The back of the chair should have a double welt to hide the staples.  The client asked that is be done without.  We agreed, but are ready to apply the double welt should she change her mind.

All this needs is a golden lab, or maybe a cocker spaniel to complete the tableau.

Yet another completed order, on-time and top-notch!   If you would like to have your house ready for guests, now is the time.  Don't call on Dec. 1st next year, let's start now...or Monday.   Definitely Monday.

Yes, it's a slipcover.

From the girl's room I've been working on.  Here is the completed slipcover.  I would tell you which company sells the fabric, but they still have not given me permission (go figure).  If you would like to know just shoot me an e-mail and I'll tell you.
It looks even better in real life.

Bonus picture:
The headboard is a slipcover too.

Here it is...

I gave you a little preview a couple days ago and here is the reveal:

Boy did these turn out great!

I think there is too much down in the cushion.  I'll fix it after the holidays.  Oh First World problems!

See pretty great huh.

Turban Swags over Pinch Pleat drapes.

Made the piano bench cushion too.

Another one of the window treatments.

And here is some detail of the tieback.
Would you like me to come out and work on your living room too?  I can't take care of it for this Thanksgiving, but I can have it done for the next one.

In a few days...

There is a certain client who will be having her Living Room completed in time for Thanksgiving.  I don't want to give away the surprise; but here are a few of the pieces that will be going up.

For all of you who have asked, this is a turban swag.

Stroheim and Romann, Connoisseur Versailles Collection.
If I get lucky I may be able to get a few pictures of the sofa and chairs tomorrow to add.

Use of grey...

Grey or gray, depending on where you are from, is not commonly used outside of contemporary decorating.  Neither is synthetic suede.  That being said here is a sofa I did using a grey synthetic suede.

From the right.

From the left.
I wish I had a few before pictures so you could really see what a difference this piece made, but I can't seem to find them.  You'll just have to take my word for it.  Better yet call us and let's schedule an appointment for me to come out and take care of something for you.  I'm still scheduling in November, get it figured out now, and as soon as your guests all leave we will take the pieces and you'll never have to see those wine and pie stains again!

A DC Apartment part II...

Previously I wrote a post about an apartment in DC I was working on (http://decbasics.blogspot.com/2011/08/dc-apartment.html).  Well the final piece is now in and up.  Here you go:

It makes quite a difference.

And even the rod fits!

I would really have like to line the chair up in the center, but there just wasn't room, and of course, then the light would be way off center.  Sigh, sometimes it is good to remind myself that not everything needs to be perfectly symmetrical.

Follow up...

Just went to a client's house that I did some slipcovers for a sun-room (partially exposed) back in 2009.  Thought you might want to see them a few years later.  And yes, even the seat cushion with that sinuous curve is slip-covered .

Click on the picture to make it bigger.
Would you like some slipcovers made?  It is getting too later for Thanksgiving, but I can probably still have them done before the winter holidays roll around.  Call or send an e-mail, I'm happy to help.

The Lincoln Rocker...

As promised here is the Lincoln rocker.  It was already in good shape, but we added the tufts and used a mohair velvet off the floor in Rockville.  Notice how we did the underside of the rocker too.  It really turned out better than I could have hoped.

Tufts look great.

Detail of the underside.

My client insists that you get to see the back too.
Don't forget you can click on the pictures and get a much larger version.

Before and After...

I am so pleased with how this sofa turned out that I thought I would share it with you.  My client wanted something as close as possible to the original (well once I assured her the cleaning wouldn't be an option).  I think the velvet looks near perfect.

If you look at the bottom right you can see the springs and webbing.

This is a great looking frame, and a definite keeper.

Sure it took a bit of work but look at it now.

Well worth the effort.
I also have a Lincoln rocker to show you, but maybe I will save that for the next update.  Remember if you have a piece to be reupholstered we are more than happy to speak to you about it.  We do more than just sell the fabric.

Recent Bedding and a Surprise...

Here are a couple of pictures of bedding I have done recently.  The first is one of two matched sets for a girl's room.  Headboard slipcovers and a table cloth/topper will finish out the picture.  There is also a chair and window treatment, if anyone would like to see them.

Very cute, but not too young.  they'll be able to keep this for a long time.
This second picture is of a guest bedroom which NOBODY will ever be allowed to use.  That's right, don't even look at that silk with a glass in your hand.  There is also a chair I did in here.  Pics upon request.

Get me a velvet rope.
And now for the surprise:

http://livingsocial.com/deals/121357-50-to-spend-on-fabrics-and-classes?msdc_id=1

Half off G Street fabrics...well almost everything.  Didn't think we would do it again?  Wrong.  Get them while they last.

Something special...

It is not too often that I go down to the Washington Design Center.  Two, maybe three times a year I have reason to go.  In part it is because I have so many of the same resources in my own library, and also the reps will send me anything I need without having to take the day to drive down.  That being said I had need to go today.  My Fabricut (Vervain/S Harris/Stroheim and Romann/Trend/etc) rep Judy was pulling a few things for a very special project I'm working on and I went down to pull a few things myself.  I will probably post most of the work on one of my other blogs (http://formaltraditional.blogspot.com/) but I thought some of these were so nice that I would share them with everyone on this list.

Now I know these pieces aren't to everyone's taste (and really what is), but imagine them in a very Formal and Traditional French setting.  Not Provence (country French) more Versailles.  If you really want to treat look up my post on the other blog on Aaron Radlow's Pierre Gole tables.
Click it.
You really should see
 these up close.

These are from my good friends at Fortuny.

Upholstery?
From a 19th century document.

These are from a different showroom, if they object I will take them down.
Can't imagine that they will want me not to show this to all of you though.

More work...

Here is a photo from a client I have previously posted photos of...well her house anyway.
Fun and colorful...
If you would like to see the pictures of the other kids bedrooms they are here:

http://decbasics.blogspot.com/2011/07/another-couple-from-today.html

I am in the process of getting a couple of cornice boards for her Master Bedroom, if you would like to see those when they are done let me know.  E-mail or comment...as per usual.

Today's install...

Here are a few pictures from my install this morning.  This is a double sided very long french pleated velvet room divider.  It is made in three sections, and is HAND drawn.  Can you believe it?  I has just about every challenge you can throw in.  Double sided, with trim, hand draw, ceiling mount, with a curve...

Track with the curve.

Closeup of the carriers.

Going up...

Three sections.

Tiebacks added.

View from the reverse.
Want a set?  You build the house, I'l take care of the treatments.

Top and Bottom Sheers...

Several of my recent clients have asked me what a top and bottom sheers are.  Sometimes abbreviated as T+B or T+B sheers, they are sheers  that are held in place with a rod at both the top and bottom of the treatment.

This one features and embroidered sheer.
Some people choose to tie the center with a band (often called a belly band) which will form an hourglass shape.  Others will do the inverse exposing a diamond of unobstructed glass in the middle.  Either way the key thing to remember is that while it will give you an added level of privacy; if light can come through then it is possible for people to see through it too.

P.S.  I have a bonus picture showing three possible configurations of top rod only sheers.  If you would like to see it comment or e-mail me and I will send it to you.

A DC apartment...

My work from yesterday turned out so nice I thought I would share it with you.   Can't wait to get the other pieces up.
Two fantastic Fabricut pillows on the sofa.
The Dining Room.
Just installed the valance and panels. The chairs were done prior.
One more, I can't help myself.
Valance, Drapes, Quilted comforter.  Headboard, Throw pillows, and Bed-skirt.   Might need some ironing.
Would you like your rooms to look this nice?  I would be happy to help.  And even better we don't charge for my services.
